Calsbad Caverns
While we lived in El Paso, TX, we took advantage of many of the sites the area had to offer. One of the sites that was just about an hour from our home was Carlsbad Caverns. Carlsbad Caverns is home to the largest cave room in the western hemisphere. In September 2000, we made the short drive to New Mexico to check out the caverns ourselves.
As you can see from the photograph, the entrance to the cave was quite large.
It took our family almost two hours to walk through cave. That did not include many side rooms that we did not visit. We were thankful for the cool temperature of the cave. At the end of the tour, they cut the lights off and did a laser light show for everyone. At the end we were happy to hear that there was an elevator to bring us back to the surface. The low lighting in the caves made it difficult to photograph. Many of the photographs did not turn out. This is a photograph of the entrance to the main cave.
